Youth Competition Excels At State Cup
The Cal South State Tournament is the Worlds largest youth soccer tournament.
It is that special time of year when competitive youth soccer teams from all over Southern California meet on the field to face off. Soccer teams prepare all season for this highly competitive challenge and to the victor goes the high acclaim of the title of champion. Sports Authority State Cup Youngers competition is divided into the Mayors, Governors and Presidents Divisions. (The Presidents Division is the most competitive.) Winning a State Cup championship is a hallmark of fame in the circles of top youth clubs – and an accomplishment that each player takes great pride in. These are youth soccer games where even making it to the semi-finals is significant and emerging as a Finalist is a great achievement.
Did you know … Cal South State Cup has been held annually since 1978, and has also been known previously as the Cal South Open Cup. Sports Authority has partnered with Cal South to present State Cup for 2011.
In 2009, champions in this competition advanced to the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Championships. In 2010, the Cal South State Cup was broken into two separate divisions: Governors and Presidents. Only the champions in the Presidents Division (U13-U17) advance to the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Championships.
Cal South State Cup is held at many venues all across Southern California from Lancaster to Coronado and Inland Empire. It is hard to drive by a soccer field at this time of year and not watch young players in their team jerseys competing.
There are hundreds of teams competing in Cal South State Cup:
2015 Sports Authority State Cup – Younger’s (u9 to U13) :
- Mayors 200 teams

- Presidents 646 teams
This is a total of 1,677 teams – with over 25,000 players challenging themselves to be their best on the field.
Some of the 2015 Sports Authority State Cup-Youngers President Division games were held at the new So Cal Sports Complex in Oceanside, California – a spectacular new venue which boasts of 20 beautiful grass fields. The expansive tournament fields are the brain child of Pat Collins and Mike Connerley, whose passion for soccer and relentless determination made the project happen.
The idea for the So Cal Sports Complex was born in 2004 and took ten years to be approved and complete. Far superior to many other venues, soccer moms and dads from LA to Coronado and beyond were all smiles as they walked around the facility, enjoying the breeze from the Pacific Ocean as they watched their players compete at this gorgeous location.
