Cal South Kicks Off Successful Recreational Youth Soccer Tournament
All-Star Recreational Youth Soccer Teams Enjoy Opportunity To Participate in Recreational Soccer Tournament
Cal South celebrated the joy of soccer with the inaugural Cal South Recreational All-Star Tournament of Champions on January 17-18, 2015 at Ryan Park in Escondido, California. Cal South sanctions over 150 youth soccer tournaments and serves over 85,000 registered recreational players.
Over 800 of Cal South’s recreational Boys and Girls U10 (under ten years of age), U12 and U14 players enjoyed the excitement of the two-day All-Star Tournament of Champions. The forty-eight (48) all-star youth soccer teams who participated came from all over Southern California. Recreational youth soccer teams rarely have the opportunity to travel from El Centro, Victorville, Simi Valley, Santa Maria, Palm Desert, Riverside County, and all over the greater San Diego area to come together on a soccer field and benefit from the challenge of healthy competition.
It is not often recreational players are given the opportunity to participate in an event of this magnitude. There are 3 million children playing soccer in America and the majority play recreational soccer and Cal South has ninety-six recreational leagues throughout Southern California.
This inaugural recreational tournament was well received and the event was highly anticipated and filled very quickly. Next year, Cal South has plans to expand the All-Star Tournament of Champions to involve more participants.
“We are excited our first Cal South Recreational All-Star Tournament of Champions was so successful,” said Johnnie Garza, Chief Operating Officer for Cal South. “Our recreational soccer players and coaches are very important to Cal South and we want them to experience the benefits of coming together for a tournament.”
Rick Velasco, Tournament Chairman and Cal South Vice President of Youth, Luis Salcedo, Tournament Director and all the District Commissioners worked together to host the event. Velasco said, “We are very proud of all the players who competed in the 2015 Cal South Recreational All-Star Tournament of Champions and want to thank all the coaches, players and parents who came together at Ryan Park to celebrate soccer. Soccer teaches so many life lessons.”
