2015 US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships
The 2015 US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships kicked off June 22, at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise, Idaho. The top 238 US Youth Soccer boys and girls teams from the 14 State Associations that make up US Youth Soccer Region IV competed for the regional title. Six teams who were crowned Region IV Champions were from Cal South, the state association highly recognized as the leader in competitive soccer.
So Cal Blues Baker, Legends FC Gold, Surf Aguilar, Santa Barbara SC White, San Diego SC 00 Academy Navy, Fullerton Rangers White, Albion SC Boys White, Fullerton Rangers 96 White, FC Golden State White, Albion SC Girls White, Carlsbad Elite 99, Legends FC 99, Beach FC Academy 97, Carlsbad Elite 97/98, Beach FC Academy, Carlsbad Elite, DMCV Sharks Elite, all advance to the 2015 US Youth Soccer National Championships, July 21-26, at Mohawk Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, providing approximately 185,000 players on more than 10,000 teams from US Youth Soccer’s 55 State Associations the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play.
U12 Girls SD Surf Academy 02/03
Head Coach: Mark Spooner
SD Surf Academy Girls went undefeated in the tournament. They started with a 0-4 shutout against Leahi 03 (HI), a 1-4 win against Arsenal FC North (CA-S), and an amazing 0-7 blowout against Westside Timbers 02 Copa TS (OR) sending them to the quarter finals. They defeated Sparta 03 Premier KL (UT) in the quarter finals 2-3. They then went on to defeat Seattle United 02 Copa (WA) in the semi-finals 2-0, which advanced them to the Finals.
The girls quickly attacked Legends FC 02 (CA-S). Dorrian Savage netted a pair of goals in the span of seven minutes to put Surf up 2-0 before the half. Although Legends managed to score one goal, SD Surf Academy Girls came out victorious with a 2-1 win.
Savage earned an impressive title as the lead scorer of the tournament with a total of 8 goals.
U13 Girls So Cal Blues Baker
Head Coach: Gregory Baker
The So Cal Blues Baker started the tournament by dominating 0-10 against Elite FC Phasers 02 (NM) and 0-6 against Heat FC 02 RM (NV). Game three was another win against Capital FC Timbers 2001 Red (OR) sending them to the semi-finals. They continued their winning streak with a 6-0 semi-final win against Scottsdale Soccer 02 Blackhawks (AZ), which advanced them to the Finals.
So Cal Blues Baker started the final game against fellow CalSouth opponent, Eagles SC (CA-S) with a bang. Trinity Rodman scored in the seventh minute and the Eagles responded with a goal at the end of the first half and another the first couple minutes of the second half. It was Rodman again who scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute. Neither team was able to get the edge in regular time, so overtime was necessary where Jordyn Gather broke the 2-2 tie in the 72nd minute and Isabella DAquila added the final goal of the match in the 86nd minute ending the game 4-2.
U14 Girls Legends FC Gold
Head Coach: Carlos Guerrero
The Legends FC Gold girls went undefeated in the tournament. They started with a 4-0 shutout against Westside Timbers 00 Copa TS (OR), a 1-0 win against FCSC Nemesis 00 White (WA) and a 0-1 win against Sparta Premier 01 TM (UT) sending them to the quarter finals. They then moved on to the semi-finals by shutting out Rio Rapids SC 01 Riot (NM) 3-0. They faced FC Nova (ID) and came out with a 2-4 win, which advanced them to the finals.
The girls were ready for victory, Madison Fortich began the scoring for Legends in the eighth minute, Emily Jauregui added a second right before halftime and Liliana Flores Smith scored the match’s final goal in the 63rd minute, shutting out Rush 01 (HI) 3-0 to win the title.
U12 Boys Total Futbol Academy
Head Coach: Geo Valenzuela
The Total Futbol Academy U12 boys went undefeated in the tournament. They started off with a 6- win against La Roca S CS (UT), then defeated Real Colorado National (CO) 1-0 and Eastside FC 02 Red (WA) 1-2, sending them to the quarter finals. They defeated Surf Hawaii White 03 (HI) 4-1 to move on to the semi-finals. They faced Sereno West 03 Chelsea (AZ) and came out with a 2-3 win, which advanced them to the finals.
Mauricio Cuevas was the hero in the finals as his ninth minute goal led the boys to a 1-0 victory against Seattle United 02 Copa (WA).
U15 Boys Surf Aguilar
Head Coach: Hector Aguilar
The Surf Aguilar Boys fought hard for their title. They started the tournament with a 1-6 win over Casper Blades (WY) 1-6. They then tied 2-2 with Players SC 00 Elite (NV) and defeated EC Real Salinas Pumas (CA-N) 1-0 which brought them to the quarter finals. They then defeated Sherman Oaks Extreme LAFA (CA-S) 2-1 in the quarter finals to advance to the semi-finals. The boys tied 2-2 with Rio Rapids SC 00 (NM) in the semi-finals and advanced to the final after scoring 6 PK’s to Rio Rapids 5 PK’s.
The final started with a Sereno West 00 Chelsea (AZ) goal in the 21st minute. The Surf Aguilar boys responded with Julian Castro’s goal right before halftime. It would take until the 79th minute for the 1-1 tie to be broken as Oscar Aguilar netted the game-winner to secure the region title.
U17 Boys Santa Barbara SC White
The Santa Barbara boys never gave up during the tournament. They started off the tournament with a 2-0 win against SC del Sol 98 Colavecchia (AZ) and then back-to-back ties against WPFC 97 Black (WA) 1-1 and Crossfire Oregon 97 Green 1 (OR) 1-1. They still advanced to the quarter finals where they defeated BNSC Liverpool (ID) 2-5, to move on to the semi-finals. They dominated against Scottsdale Soccer 98 Burke (AZ) in the semi-final with a 2-8 win advancing them to the finals.
Santa Barbara captain Timothy Heiduk was the hero for Santa Barbara scoring both goals of the game. After Santa Barbara went down 1-0, Heiduk scored goals in the 60th and 90th minute to secure the win and his team’s fifth regional title and fourth trip to the National Championships.
