Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club Wins Big – GU14 Team are Ranked Highest Seed in Nation for Regionals Bracket
Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club GU14 team has always been recognized as one of the top youth soccer teams in the United States. Now, after the victory winning National State Cup, the team is off to regional’s as #1 seed in the nation.
Michael Duggan, Director of Coaching, Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club is especially proud of this GU14 team as well as all of the youth soccer players participating in the Elite Program for soccer player development. Duggan coached the team along with Marisa Zambetti. “The GU14 team is fantastic and performed very well at State Cup, beating all their opponents, and is off to compete in regionals as the #1 seed in the Nation. Hard work, dedication, team work are the reasons for our success,” said Duggan.

“Carlsbad’s GU15s are in the State Cup Semi final this weekend and the 17s got beat in the quarters. Even our boys 14,15,16 performed well at State Cup this year,” said Duggan. The competition was tough at State Cup according to Duggan.
“We have been playing every weekend for the past 4 weeks, advancing to the finals last weekend in Lancaster, CA. We are very proud to have won Cal South’s National State cup. The competition starts with 64 of the top premier teams in Southern California and there is only one winner!”
“Now that we won Cal South, we advance to regionals as the #1 seed. We will be competing against all the other teams who won their State Soccer Competitions; cups, and we look forward to seeing the Champs from NM,NV,MT,WY,CA-N,UT,ID,OR,WA,CO,AK,AZ,CA-S,HI.”
Winning and even participating on this level of competitive soccer takes a lot of effort on behalf of a lot of people. Funds to offset team expenses were raised through sponsorships, garage sales, Soccer Tournament November Nights.
Coach Michael Duggan is dedicated to the development of youth soccer players in America, and especially in Southern California. A proud resident of Carlsbad, Duggan lives in the San Diego area with his wife and two daughters. As a final note, Duggan said, “I am so proud of these girls on the team. Its hard to put into words. These girls are fantastic role models to all the younger players we have at Carlsbad Lightning, not just on the field but off it too. I know they will continue to find success on and off the field.”
“I would also like the thank all the parents for their support and dedication. Without them, these kids would never be able to reach their goals. As I always say, there is a team on the field and a team off the field supporting each other all the way.”
