Soccer News: Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that it has signed goalkeeper Caroline Stanley, who spent the 2015 season with Seattle Reign FC. Stanley officially joined the New Jersey club when it opened up its 2016 preseason camp on Monday morning at The Atlantic Club in Manasquan, N.J.
“We are absolutely delighted to have acquired Caroline Stanley,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “She is a fantastic young prospect who has experience in the NWSL and has worked with some of the top goalkeepers within the league. We are excited to get her working with (Sky Blue FC assistant coach) Jill Loyden and becoming a really important part of our team as we head into the 2016 season.”
While playing with Seattle in 2015, Stanley played alongside Haley Kopmeyer and U.S. Women’s National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo. Making one start, the Missouri native allowed a single goal in a 2-1 win over the Boston Breakers.
“I am extremely excited about signing with Sky Blue FC,” Stanley remarked. “The dynamic between Christy, Paul (Greig) and Jill is fantastic. The staff, as well as the team, has high expectations for the season. I am thankful and proud to be part of the direction in which they are determined to lead this club. I am so ready to step on the field and compete everyday with them.”
Stanley, 22, played three years at the University of Southern California after competing for the University of Missouri during her freshman campaign. While playing for the Women of Troy, she started 55 times over 58 appearances, recording 10 clean sheets and making 245 saves. Her most impressive season came as a senior, starting 21 consecutive games and accumulating a 0.86 Goals Against Average while registering six shutouts. During her senior campaign, Stanley also served as team captain.
On the international circuit, Stanley represented the U.S. Youth Women’s National Team at the U-15, U-17, U-18 and U-20 level.
