The Third Weekend in June is Championship Weekend on Staten Island
New York Soccer News: Staten Island becomes the center of New York youth soccer on the weekend of June 20 and 21 as that’s championship weekend on the island as the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) hosts the ENY Premier League finals and ENY Champions Cup at Owl Hollow Fields.
The fun begins on Saturday, June 20 with the ENY Premier League finals. Champions in the following divisions will be crowned:
Boys-Under-12, Boys-Under-13, Boys-Under-14, Boys-Under-18
Girls-Under-14, Girls-Under-17, Girls-Under-18
The competition continues on Sunday, June 21 as the ENY Champions Cup will be played for both boys and girls in the Under-11 and Under-15 age groups. The teams playing are the top Division 1 representatives of Eastern New York’s member leagues.
“The Staten Island Youth Soccer League is absolutely delighted to host both of these top competitions as the best teams play for supremacy in New York,” commented SIYSL President Bill Smith.
Owl Hollow Fields has four turf fields, two of which are lighted, and is located off the 440 Expressway at Arthur Kill Road. It is part of the developing Freshkills Park, which will be three times the size of Central Park after it’s completed.
Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association: With over 100,000 youth soccer players–both boys and girls–and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 11 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators.
All levels of soccer are offered–from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
