Guadalajara and Monterrey are the Latest Clubs to Join Dallas Cup
Notable Liga MX clubs CD Guadalajara and CF Monterrey are the latest teams announced to be competing in Dallas Cup in March. Guadalajara Chivas are known for developing international stars Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Omar Bravo, and Carlos Vela while Monterrey holds the Dallas Cup record for the most “Boot and Ball” championship trophies.
Soccer News from Dallas Cup: The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, has announced the inclusion of CD Guadalajara and CF Monterrey to the tournament’s elite Gordon Jago Super Group. Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVII will take place from March 20 – 27, 2016.
CD Guadalajara, affectionately referred to by their fans as “Chivas”, is Mexico’s most popular team, having won 11 Liga-MX titles. “Chivas”has a successful history of supplying the Mexican National teams with star players, including Dallas Cup alumni and Mexican World Cup players Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Omar Bravo, and Carlos Vela.
Joining their Mexican rivals is CF Monterrey, who holds the Dallas Cup record for the most “Boot and Ball” championship trophies; winning fifteen across all age groups. Last year, Monterrey just missed out on adding to that total, finishing second in the Gordon Jago Super Group.
Due to the current financial situation in Brazil, previously announced Coritiba FC has withdrawn from this year’s tournament. An invitation has been extended to the current Gordon Jago Super Group champions to return for the 2017 tournament.
