LA Galaxy San Diego Becomes City SC
LA Galaxy San Diego (LAGSD) has announced that beginning with the 2020 season the club will be rebranding as City Soccer Club (City SC).
After four years of wearing the LA Galaxy logo as the San Diego branch of the LA Galaxy Alliance Club program, the Carlsbad, California based youth soccer club and U.S. Soccer Development Academy member has a new name. City SC. The rebrand is for the 2020 Season and the word on the street is positive.
The rebrand comes following recent news that Major League Soccer (MLS) club LA Galaxy will be moving away from aligning with youth clubs via a shared brand.
It starts with a vision. Igniting a lifelong passion for soccer.

“City SC represents the core of who we are as a club and we are excited to share the new brand with our members,” said City SC Technical Director Steve Cowell. “Our vision is to be more than just a soccer club … To transform the culture of youth soccer in the U.S. by working to build better players and better human beings.”
“While we will no longer wear the LA Galaxy badge, we look forward to continuing to work with the MLS, adidas, and also the National Women’s Soccer League via a shared passion to grow and influence the youth game on a local, regional, national and international level,” said Michael Duggan, City SC Director of Coaching.
“We are the only youth soccer club in the USA to win back-to-back community awards from the U.S. Soccer Development Academy and our hashtag is #OurCity,” said Duggan. “Our club has to be more than just about soccer. It is also about life lessons and social responsibility. Our name just makes sense.”
It is not just about running around the field playing soccer, it is how we connect with the community.

“City SC embodies the values and principles that we were founded upon, most importantly using soccer as a platform to better our community and developing an innovative approach to player development and teaching the game,” said Cowell.
It is our City. Welcome home to City SC.

According to the club’s new website, “The rich-looking crest design for City SC Carlsbad was created to pay homage to our rich history, to capture our progress, and to reveal our vision for the future.” Designed by Matthew Wolff, most recently of Nike Soccer, the circular shape was inspired by the City of Carlsbad Seal.
adidas will remain their partner. U.S. Soccer Boys Development Academy program for the 2020/2021 season will expand across all DA age groups.
LA Galaxy San Diego was formerly Carlsbad United FC — which was the merger of Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club and Carlsbad Wave in 2013.
