2015 Apertura Championship
Soccer News: Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles Under-15 squad look to cap off a memorable season where it finished league leaders by being crowned 2015 Apertura champions.
The Xoloitzcuintles youth squad will host Pumas UNAM in the championship match on Sunday Dec. 6 at Estadio Caliente (5:00 p.m. kickoff).
“We know we can be champions,” said Xoloitzcuintles goalkeeper Carlos Higuera in an exclusive interview with XOLOTV. “We are only one step away. We have everything in our favor, we are at home, we have the supporter group, the fans, everything is in our favor.”
Club Tijuana finished the 16 week regular season as the best team in the tournament with an 11-3-2 record, as well as having the best offense with 49 goals scored, and one of the better defense with only 20 goals conceded.
“It is a goal to become champions,” said Higuera who has totaled 1,210 minutes in 15 matches this season for the Xoloitzcuintles. “My teammates all try to improve everyday just like I do. They are all very good, each one of them has their own talent, they are all good players. We are one team, one family, and we will push forward together.”
The Sinaloa native goalkeeper made his debut with the Xoloitzcuintles U-15 squad against the very Pumas UNAM side that he will face in the final. The score did not favor the Tijuana side, losing 2-1 in Mexico City but he is now motivated to making sure things end up different for his team.
“We are all very motivated,” Higuera said. “The supporter group really motivates us. I am really excited for the game, I want it play it already.”
