Xoloitzcuintles Go Undefeated In Prestigious Super Group
Club Tijuana Under-13 team wins prestigious international competition in San Diego, California.
News from Club Tijuana – The Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles clinched another international youth tournament over Memorial Day weekend. The Under-13 squad beat Manchester City FC in the Manchester City Americas Cup Sunday at the SoCal Sports Complex in Oceanside, California.
Manchester City FC and San Diego Surf Cup Sports Hosted the Second Annual Americas Cup over Memorial Day weekend, May 28 – 30, 2016. Presented by Surf Cup Sports, the youth soccer tournament featured boys and girls youth soccer teams from all across the country. Manchester City FC Academy 20013 team traveled from England to compete.

Club Tijuana, played in the 2003 “Super Group” against academy teams from across the United States and England. The “Super Group” teams featured U13 Academy players from Manchester City FC, San Diego Surf Soccer Club and Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo, San Jose Earthquakes and Crossfire Premier Academy as well as the Xolos.
A dominant force in the Super Group, the Xoloitzcuintles beat the tournament host team 2-1. The Club Tijuana team made up of players from the Fuerzas Basicas youth system finished their bracket undefeated.
With a fluid brand of soccer stringing passes and dangerous attacks, Club Tijuana defeated the Houston Dynamo Academy from Texas 3-0. In the second group game, the Xoloitzcuintles faced Crossfire Premier Academy from Washington and came away with another solid victory on American soil, this time, a 2-0 shut out.
“This tournament is a very good, tough tournament with intense games where we have played well,” said Xoloitzcuintles Under-13 coach Adolfo Castro. “Our defense was very secure, and our transitions to attack resulted in many fruitful counterattacks.”
Against Manchester City FC, the Xoloitzcuintles were able to round out an organized match against one of the competition’s tougher opponents.
It is the second time Club Tijuana has a youth team clinch a title in San Diego. The U15 and U16 teams also won the Surf Cup in July 2014. Surf Cup is known as the Best of the Best youth soccer tournament in America.
