Cobi Jones Holds Soccer Camp in the Inland Empire
Cobi Jones’ upcoming soccer camp is making its way to the SilverLakes Sports Complex in Norco, California, as players gear up to learn from the L.A. Galaxy legend. The three-day camp will kick off on December 27th and will be available for boys and girls born between 2001-2008. Simply one of the best programs we have reviewed.
Youth Soccer News: The Cobi Jones Elite Soccer Camp is coming to the Inland Empire in order to provide youth players an opportunity to gain some soccer knowledge from the L.A. Galaxy and U.S. Soccer legend.
This camp is for players born between boys and girls born between 2001-2008.
A world class player, Cobi Jones recorded 164 caps for U.S. Soccer, representing the country more than any other male player in history.
The Interview with Cobi Jones
“The program is going beyond the basic to give players the edge that they need to reach the next levels,” says Cobi Jones. “The camp will give elite players an idea of what it takes to go to the next level — from my personal experience.”
“Getting to the next level in soccer take discipline,” says Cobi. “Players will work on the technical aspects as well as deepening their understanding of the tactical elements.”
“We will go over what it takes to advance and develop — Players have to eat the right things and get the proper rest too.”
When I asked Cobi Jones what was the hardest challenge to overcome as a youth soccer player, he responded by saying, “As a player, the hardest thing for me to learn was not being so hard on myself and I always remind myself that I miss 100% of the shots I never took. I was that kid who got so upset when we lost a game — It took me a while to realize that mistakes were part of development.
“Throughout my youth, college and professional career, there were a variety of soccer coaches who didn’t like me,” admitted Jones.
“When I was in high school, one of my soccer coaches said I was the worst player he had ever seen,” said Jones. “Coaches are not always right.”
“Coaches do change their mind, says Jones. “Players can help a coach change their mind by showing them that they are willing to learn. Show a coach that you are adding to your game and force them to reevaluate you. Remember, I was a walk on UCLA. My first LA Galaxy coach was my USA Olympic team coach — who had cut me twice.” A native of Westlake Village, California, Jones played college soccer at UCLA, leading the Bruins to the 1990 NCAA Championship.
On a final note, what does Cobi believe?
“It is important that kids enjoy soccer – that kids are loving playing the game.”
The Scoop on the Camp
With aspirations to become the best player and teammate possible, the CJESC staff will work with each participant to focus on their conditioning, technical and tactical abilities, injury prevention and position within a team.
Jones spent 15 seasons with the Galaxy as both a player and coach from 1996 – 2010, with his #13 being the only number in club history to be retired. He scored the first goal in L.A. Galaxy club history, recording a total of 70 goals and 91 assists in 306 career regular season games.
Jones is a two-time MLS Cup winner in 2002 and 2005. A 2011 US Soccer Hall of Fame inductee and the CONCACAF representative for the 2010 World Cup Draw in Germany, Jones played in three World Cups for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team (1994, 1998, 2002).
