Former Sky Blue FC Defender Officially Announced Retirement
As the 2015 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) begins its 2015 preseason, former Sky Blue FC defender CoCo Goodson has officially announced her retirement from the game of soccer.
“We want to thank CoCo for her two seasons of commitment to Sky Blue FC,” said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. “She was consistently a top performer for us. We will all miss her and wish her good luck in the future.”
A two-time NSCAA/NCAA All-American at the University of California-Irvine, Goodson made 40 starts over 43 appearances during her two years with Sky Blue FC. The California native played every minute of the 2013 season, registering a goal and an assist, and she brought a high level of defensive play to the team once again in 2014.
“I want to thank Sky Blue FC and the NWSL for allowing me to follow my dreams and play professional soccer,” Goodson stated. “I have made memories that will last me a lifetime and friends that will forever be in my life. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career. I can’t express how much I appreciate it. I have made the difficult decision to start the next chapter of my life and pursue a new career. I am excited for what the future holds for me!”
Sky Blue FC President & General Manager Tony Novo also shared his thoughts on the announcement.
“On behalf of all of us here at Sky Blue FC, we want to thank CoCo for her contributions over the past two seasons, both on and off the field,” he remarked. “She was a valuable assett to this organization, and we know that she will find success in whatever venture she chooses to enter following her professional playing career.”
