Competitive Youth Soccer Games Still Now Allowed in San Diego
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the beautiful game on all levels.
Today’s announcement that Surf Cup will be postponed again reflects the massive effort to bring youth soccer back and the safety protocols for the COVID-19 pandemic still requiring constant re-evaluation and shuffling of schedules.
Surf Cup’s statement detailed how they had to re-evaluate their planning as competitive games are still not allowed in San Diego County. We have worked tirelessly with the county and state to utilize our current dates, but at this time, we will be moving Surf Cup, both Olders and Youngers, to the following dates:
- Surf Cup Youngers: September 19-20
- Surf Cup Olders: September 25-27
“For over 30 years, Surf Cup has brought teams together from all over the world to compete for the title of Best of the Best.”
Never before has the youth soccer tournament had to change its dates as it has in 2020 with the impact of the Coronavirus COVID-19.
“We are proud to annually host this premier event for elite competition and top tier college recruiting. Despite COVID-19, the demand for Surf Cup in 2020 has never wavered. We believe it is our responsibility and our number one priority to service our soccer community and in doing so we must remain flexible.”
“This is an unusual move for us, but this is also an unusual period of time.”
Surf Cup will also expand its tournament schedule for the Fall and the beginning of 2021.
