Toyota Field Set to Host MoneyGram SocioMX Tour Match
Toyota Field will welcome Liga MX clubs Cruz Azul and Club Atlas on October 9th in a MoneyGram SocioMX Tour 2016 match. The game will serve as the stadium’s first match hosting clubs other than home squad San Antonio FC of the USL.
Soccer New: Toyota Field will host a MoneyGram SocioMX Tour 2016 match between Liga MX clubs Cruz Azul and Club Atlas on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. The match, promoted by Sports Marketing Monterrey, will be the first club friendly at Toyota Field since Spurs Sports & Entertainment began operating the facility as the home stadium of San Antonio FC.

“This is an exciting event that we are able to host here at Toyota Field,” said Director of Toyota Field Dave Susi. “The match between Cruz Azul and Atlas marks the first event we are hosting outside of San Antonio FC matches this season, and we are looking forward to this and other potential upcoming events at Toyota Field in the future.”
Cruz Azul was founded in 1927 and have won eight first division titles in Mexico, which marks the third most in the league’s history. Cruz Azul also has six CONCACAF Champions League titles including their latest in the 2013-14 season, which makes them the second-most successful club in the history of the tournament.
Founded in 1916 and celebrating its Centennial this year, Club Atlas is a one-time Liga MX champion and four-time winner of the Copa MX tournament. Atlas is one of three teams that plays in the city of Guadalajara and the club finished 15th in the 2016 Clausura season.
The MoneyGram SocioMX Tour brings soccer games with quality Mexican League teams to the United States, and also brings experiences that generate unique passion to soccer fans. The tour is returning to Texas and bringing these two historic Liga MX clubs to Toyota Field on Oct. 9.

A 8,200 seat stadium, Toyota Field opened in 2013 and has been the home of the USL club San Antonio FC since the spring of 2016. The facility was acquired in 2015 by the City of San Antonio and Bexar County, in partnership with Spurs Sports & Entertainment who now control all operations of the facility along with the neighboring STAR Soccer Complex.
