Dunn Receives Honors For Fifth Time–First NWSL Player To Do So
Soccer News: Washington Spirit forward Crystal Dunn was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 18 of the 2015 NWSL season.
Dunn, 23, scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time to help the Spirit record a 2-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday night at Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill.
The New York native found the back of the net in the 90+’ minute by weaving around the Red Stars’ defenders and slipping the ball inside the post, past Chicago goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc. This is the sixth game winning goal for Dunn this season, who currently leads the league with 13 goals scored.
Dunn’s goal moved Washington into the second spot of the standings, above the Red Stars and five points behind Seattle Reign FC. The Spirit will have the chance to clinch a playoff spot in the next three weeks with three games remaining in their regular season schedule.
The former Tar Heel is the third Spirit player to be honored as the NWSL Player of the Week. She is the first NWSL player to receive the award five times this season, when she was honored with the award in Weeks 3, 8, 11 and 16.
The Washington Spirit will return to action on Saturday, August 27th against FC Kansas City at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.
