Dana Cup Hjørring 2016 Dates for Denmark Tournament
Notable international youth tournament Dana Cup Hjørring has been hosted for over 30 years with the first edition taking place in 1982. Welcoming teams from all around the world, the tournament will be hosted during the month of July bringing an exciting and eventful summer event for all traveling teams.
Youth Soccer News: The Dana Cup Hjørring 2016 will be held from the 25th to the 30th of July in Hjørring, Denmark. The Dana Cup was founded in 1982 with 222 teams taking part in the first edition, now 34 years later, the tournament welcomes around 1,100 teams from 45 nations each summer.
In 2016, the Dana Cup will be hosting their 35th youth soccer tournament and they expect to have a record year of attendance and teams competing. In fact, this summer’s Dana Cup tournament is shaping up to be the biggest ever with registrations already 40% higher than in 2015.
Privileged to welcome teams from almost every corner of the world, the Dana Cup has welcomed 112 nations in its history.
The Dana Cup delivers the perfect platform for youth soccer teams to experience what it could be like to become a professional soccer player and participate at a World Cup or Olympics. Players become immersed in a passionate soccer life style in the tournament’s unique international atmosphere.
The 2016 Dana Cup boys classes range from U11 to U19 and the girls are from U12 to U19. The two youngest classes U11 and U12 will play 7 a side soccer and the older teams will all participating in competing on the traditional 11 a side.
“The growth of our tournament from the start to today has been extreme and we can only say the biggest thank you to our leader group around the Dana Cup,” said Alison Leigh Forman, Marketing for the Dana Cup Hjørring. “One of our visions as a tournament is to be the world’s best and most international youth soccer tournament, where quality is at the highest level within every area. To achieve this, we need to maintain what is good and but at the same time be open to change. I believe we have the perfect combination of this.”
Forman confirmed that a total of 1,025 youth soccer teams from the USA representing 392 youth soccer clubs have competed at the Dana Cup. Top teams from the USA have taken the Dana Cup trophy back over the ocean including Dallas Texans SC, Cleveland Internations, Memphis FC, Bay Oaks, Diamond Express FC, Lakewood Fury, Club Colombine Sadida, Lenape Valley United, Westchester FC, Sparta Chicago, ESC Seattle Washington FC, Claremont Stars, Spirit of Massachusetts, Blackhawks of St. Paul, South Coast SC, Bethesda Phoenix, Lake Norman SC Eclipse, Rye Celtics, Sparta Chicago, Arizona Sunbirds, Mission Viejo SC, Pride of New England, United, NCAA Blast, Lamorinda SC, United Soccer Academy, Honolulu Bulls and NSA. Rye Celtics team was led Henrik Slipsager, known from the TV show Undercover Boss.
“Along with our professional leaders, we are forever in debt to our 1.200 volunteers, who — without them — it would not at all be possible to service our thousands of guests,” said Forman.
Many famous professional soccer players competed in the Dana Cup when they were youth players. Called the Dana Cup Stars; Andrea Pirlo from Italy, Javier Hernández Balcázar from Mexico, Zé Roberto from Brazil who currently plays for the San Diego Sockers, and Marco Fabián from Mexico are a few among the many who played Dana Cup.
