Day 3 of US Youth Soccer National League Boys
The third day of the Boy’s US Youth Soccer National League comes to a close as the top clubs in the country began their quest for a berth to the US Youth Soccer National Championships. Top college coaches are in North Carolina for a weekend of soccer action as the final day of matches are set for Sunday.
Youth Soccer News: The final day remains of the opening weekend of the 2016-17 US Youth Soccer National League Boys season. Sunday’s games will solidify the standings until the next weekend of matches in Orlando, Florida, December 27-29, alongside the Disney Showcase.
While several clubs have begun to make strides in the group standings, the top two teams in 10 of the 16 divisions are separated by one point or less – eight divisions are tied for the top spot.
The National League matches provide college recruits and U.S. Soccer staff the opportunity to see how the teams and players perform at the highest level.
“When I was a college coach at the University of Louisville, I liked to evaluate players in a real setting — games that really matter,” said Tony Colavecchia, head coach of U18 SC del Sol. “It’s much easier to evaluate a player — competitiveness, technical, tactical, physical and mental strengths — in this type of environment. The National League certainly offers that each year to each and every program.”
National League teams earn their place in the league based on success in US Youth Soccer regional and national competitions.
The National League is an extension of the highly successful US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues. It provides a path for teams to play in competitive matches against top teams from across the country for continued development and opportunities for exposure at the national team, collegiate and professional levels.
National League Boys teams will wrap up their opening week of play on Sunday as they each play their fourth match of the season.
