Argentine Manager Diego Cocca Comes on for 2018 Clausura – Club Tijuana
Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles has a head coach. Diego Martin Cocca will manage the team starting in the upcoming LIGA MX 2018 Apertura season.
The 45-year-old native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Diego Cocca, comes from coaching in his native country. He last coached Racing Club of the first division. His assistant is Mauro Gerk, Leonardo Bustos and Renso Valinoti are his fitness coaches.
Cocca began his career as a head coach in 2007 with Comision de Actividades Infantiles (CAI) of the Primera B in Argentina. He made his debut in the first division there with Club Godoy Cruz (2008-2009), continued with Gimnasia y Esgrima de la Plata (2009-2010).
He later had his first stint as a head coach in Mexico with Santos Laguna de Torreon in 2011.
After coaching at Santos, he returned to Argentina to coach Club Huracan in the B Nacional de la Pampa. He began to stand out as a coach when he took over Club Defensa y Justicia and led the team to promotion to the Argentine first division for the first time in club history in 2012.
Cocca then went on to coach Racing Club the following year. He left his mark there by winning the Argentine first division title in 2014.
Cocca also coached at Club Millonarios in Colombia before returnin to Racing Club in 2017.
As a player, Cocca began his professional career in the youth divisions at Argentine side River plate. He made his debut in 1991, winning a title at 19-years-old.
After two seasons with River, he went on to play at Deportivo Español (1993), Ferrro Carril Oesta (1994-1996). From there, he went on to play in Spain for Club UE Lleida (1996-1997) before returning to his home nation to play for Argentinos Juniors (1997-1999). Cocca also played in Mexico.
He played for Atlas de Guadalajara (1999-2001). From there, Cocca played for Banfield (2001-2002), with Veracruz in 2003-2004, Queretaro in 2005 and he went on to retire as a player with Argentinos Juniors in 2006.
