Cal South has recently announced that Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks’ coach Felicia Kappes will be honored as Cal South Competitive Coach of the Year. Kappes proudly coaches the DMVC Sharks GU16 Elite team. These girls are not just the top team in Cal South, or the State of California, or the Western Region. The girls won the US Youth Soccer National Championships and are the top team in the United States of America.
Upon learning that she was Cal South Competitive Coach of the Year, Kappes said, “To be honored for doing something I love and feel blessed to do was a nice surprise. Truly, my response is that I felt very humbled by the award, and just felt it was really an extension of this great team I am honored to coach as well as the Club I am fortunate to be a part of.”
“I fundamentally believe this great sport teaches wonderful life lessons and prepares you for every challenge that may come your way. My players know that I ask a lot of them, intense commitment and sacrifice but they also know I will give them the same back. They know I believe that our team chemistry is key to our success and they also know the importance of respect for each other and teamwork,” said Kappes.
“I am and always have been driven by the players I coach, no matter what the level or age. My job is to develop my players in every aspect of the game, prepare them properly for the next level and inspire them to dream big and believe in themselves on and off the field.”
“In turn, my players inspire me to be the best coach I can be by their dedication, hard work and commitment to each other as teammates,” said Kappes. “This year, we all strived to achieve greatness and we all realized how special the journey has been. We won a lot of events and had a wonderful time competing while at the same time created lifelong memories. To be acknowledge for all those accomplishments is amazing but I will always say this award is to be shared with all those who were part of this process; the team, my parents on the team, the DMCV Sharks Soccer Club and my family.”
“When everything is working together, coaches can really make a wonderful and positive impact on their players.”
Shannon MacMillan, Director of Club Operations at DMCV Sharks said, “Coach Felicia has been incredibly dedicated to her team. The team as a whole have been so dedicated to their goals of becoming the best, both on and off the field, and Felicia has been able to guide them and help them achieve their goals. She has helped mold these girls into great people as well as great soccer players.”
