Third Time is the Charm For the Eastern New York Soccer Festival
New York Youth Soccer News: Over 100 kids showed up to play pick-up soccer — after rain postponed event.
The third time was the charm for the inaugural Eastern New York Soccer Festival, hosted by the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA).
Originally scheduled on May 12, it rained heavily so it was postponed until the rain date on May 19, when it again rained heavily that day.
Under partly sunny skies last Saturday, June 2, the event took place at Delano-Hitch Recreation Park in Newburgh. This festival is the first of many to be planned across the state in the future.
This Soccer Open House showed local kids, both boys and girls, all that youth soccer can offer them, such as the social and health benefits plus learning ideals such as sportsmanship and teamwork.
150 kids played pick-up games on the four inflatable fields, tested their skills on a half-dozen exhibits while Eastern New York’s nationally-licensed coaches helped with skills.
“Everything went very well. There were many busy people and the kids enjoyed themselves,” commented event director Enrico Romano, an Eastern New York Trustee.
Volunteers from both Eastern New York and the East Hudson Youth Soccer League (EHYSL) made sure the day went very smoothly and kids won prizes donated by ENYYSA sponsors.
Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association: With over 100,000 youth soccer players–both boys and girls–and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) reaches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 11 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees, and administrators.
