State Cup Excitement in New York Youth Soccer
New York Soccer News: Three women playing in the Women’s World Cup in France were Eastern New York State Cup champs when they were teens
For the first time ever, all 31 state championship finals in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) will be played on one weekend. 62 finalist teams will be competing at Stringham Park in LaGrange this weekend as Dutchess County will be the focal point of New York soccer.
Traditionally, Eastern New York has played its finals over two weekends but decided to condense everything to this Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 in what will be a celebration of New York soccer. 19 finals are on Saturday with 12 being played on Sunday.
Teams from all over Eastern New York––Syracuse, Utica, Albany, Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island––won their semifinal games. The schedule:
Maybe some of these players will get to play in the World Cup one day just as USA teammates Crystal Dunn and Allie Long plus Jamaica goalkeeper Nicole McClure will be in the Women’s World Cup kicking off on June 7 in France. All three won championships in Eastern New York’s State Cup finals over a decade ago.
Admission is free during Championship Weekend at Stringham Park.
Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association: With over 100,000 youth soccer players–both boys and girls–and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) reaches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with nine leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees, and administrators.
