Soccer Star Wayne Rooney has been left off the Starting Lineup
Even the famous soccer stars have bad days. And that is a good thing for all of us to remember.
Often being left off the starting lineup is discouraging for youth soccer players who often feel inferior when they sometimes should just accept the fact that sitting on the bench is not an embarrassment, according to Wayne Rooney.
Wayne Rooney has been cooling his cleats on the bench for the past three matches —the famous player has not been a starter and was left to sit on the bench — even booed by fans in the last soccer match at Wembley when England took on Malta and lost 2-0.
Just so you know, Malta is a tiny country, just over 16 miles long and had a fraction of the soccer loving fans of England. (Malta has a just ver 400,000 and England has, according to The Telegraph, more than 8.2 million people who regularly play football.)
The upset was considered a dismal failure in England and has left many wondering what is happening with Wayne Rooney.
England captain and Manchester United star player Wayne Rooney says he is in a “difficult period” after he was dropped for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.
While the future looks uncertain for Rooney as he struggles to regain his power on the field, one thing is certain — he is a class act and a great role model for youth soccer players.
30-year-old Wayne Rooney says there is “no embarrassment” in being on the bench.
Rooney is England’s highly acclaimed goal scorer with 53 goals in 117 appearances — but his record this year is down considerably — scoring only 1 goal in 12 games this season.
Under contract until 2018, Wayne Rooney is the captain of Manchester United.
Whether or not he plays soccer right now may be up to interim manager Gareth Southgate — who says he is making tactical decisions — Rooney’s end is not in sight yet.
“My game now? Of course, I’m not denying it is in a difficult period,” said Rooney.
I’ve been on the bench the last few games but that’s part of football,” said Rooney, who is England’s most-capped outfield player.
“I have to work hard and when I’m needed for both club and country, I’ll make sure I’m ready.”
Rooney’s Twitter is clean of rants and his words of praise for his fellow players rings of class and a commitment to the beautiful game.
