Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Welcomes Back Everton FC for 2016 Edition
Everton FC becomes that latest team announced to be playing at Dallas Cup this year as they return for their fourth showing in the tournament. Everton’s U18 squad is currently tied for first in their division and have finished in the top two spots for the last two seasons as they add to the list of top flight competition that will be heading to Dallas next month.
Soccer News from Dallas Cup: The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, has announced that Everton FC of the English Premier League will compete in the elite Gordon Jago Super Group for the second consecutive year. In 2015 Everton advanced to the semifinals of the tournament, where they were narrowly defeated by eventual champion Coritiba, 1-0.
Returning to the Dallas Cup for a fourth time, the Merseyside club is recognized as being one of the premier developmental academies in England. Two of their esteemed graduates, English World Cup players Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley, appeared with Everton in the 1999 and 2012 Dallas Cup tournaments, respectively.
Everton has finished either first or second during the last two Barclays U18 Premier League campaigns. The Toffees seek to continue that trend this season, as they are currently tied for first place in the North Division of the Barclays U18 Premier League standings.
Joining Everton in the Gordon Jago Super Group will be Mexican first division club Querétaro FC. Last year Querétaro FC finished first in the Liga MX U20 Apertura regular season standings, and is currently undefeated in this winter’s Clausura season. Americans Jonathan Bornstein and Luis Gil both play for Querétaro FC’s senior side.
It was also announced that CD Guadalajara, “Chivas”, will not be able to participate in this year’s tournament due to a recent notification from the FMF that eight of its starters were called up by the Mexican U20 National Team for their Asian tour scheduled for this March.
