2018 US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup kicks off in Salt Lake City
#PresidentsCup is kicking up a storm as it provides teams with a progressive, competitive experience that highlights competition, camaraderie, and community. US Youth Soccer does an excellent job of providing great youth soccer competitions all across the vast USA — here is an update on what is happening now.
Youth Soccer News: The 2018 US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup is now underway in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The six-day event, which takes place June 12-17, kicked off Thursday with 13U through 18U Boys and Girls teams starting the action at the Salt Lake City Regional Athletic Complex.
The 12U Boys and Girls National Championship Series games are also taking place alongside the Presidents Cup.
The event features more than 180 US Youth Soccer boys and girls teams competing for a regional title and a chance to advance to the 2018 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, July 11-15 in Westfield, Ind.
Preliminary games will continue through Thursday, June 14. Quarterfinal matches will take place Friday, June 15 with Semifinal matches taking place on Saturday, June 16. Regional champions will be crowned following final matches on Sunday, June 17.
Utah Youth Soccer Association is the host of the event, and 13 other State Associations represented include Alaska, Arizona, Cal North, Cal South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup offers teams the challenge of experiencing different types of play by competing from state to regional to national levels.

US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup – U13 Girls Highlights
Cerritos Pateadores (CA-S) put its mark on the 13U Girls age group on Day One of play with a big victory over Real Colorado Red (CO). Alijah Prado started the scoring in just the second minute to give the Cal South team an early lead. Valerie Vargas Arceo added the next two to increase the Pateadores lead.
After scoring the game’s second, Arceo broke in on the left side of the box and hit a shot beyond the keeper to make it 3-0. Kyra Hamilton added the final goal of the first half. A Pateadores corner led to a scrum in the box as Colorado could not clear its lines. Hamilton got the final touch and sent a ball beyond the keeper. Alijah Prado added her second of the game, tapping a ball in from close range and then Arceo completed her hattrick to bring the final score to 6-0.
US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup – U14 Girls Highlights
WA Rush (WA) kept its foot down and sailed to a 6-1 victory over FCSC 04 White Nemesis (OR). Myah Polzin scored in the 10th minute putting Washington up, 1-0, and setting the tone for the rest of the match. Just two minutes later, Jenna Edelbrock snuck a shot through a crowd in front of goal after a corner kick fell to her feet. Washington made another set-piece count in the 20th minute when Aspen Sullivan found the end of a corner.
Myah Polzin added a second with Elyse Baker and Sorrelle Robertson rounding out the scoring for WA Rush. Despite the scoreline, WA Rush was not able to hold the clean sheet as Delaney DeGrande scored for FCSC adding a consolation goal for the team from Oregon.
US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup – 15U Girls Highlights
A brace from Elle Burton help lead Swat Crush (UT) to a, 2-0, victory over JH United 2003 (WY). Burton’s first goal came when she hit a long looping shot from the right side of the field. The ball sailed high and over the keeper’s hands for a 1-0 lead. Utah’s defense held strong allowing Swat the ability to keep attacking.
Burton added her second when she followed up a saved shot attempt and put it into an open net. JH United had a great chance to pull one back late when a long ball over the top was touched around the onrushing Swat keeper, Alexia Stone. The attacker was shepherded wide by a defender and Stone recovered to stop the attempted shot at the near post. Each team continued to press but the defenses held tight and the game finished 2-0.
US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup – 16U Boys Highlights
Tacoma United 02 Chelsea (WA) defeated Legacy (AZ), 4-0, and will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow’s game. Johan Barrera started the scoring in the 18th minute when he rifled a low free-kick that was too hot for the keeper to handle. Saul Paguada added the second of the game when a Legacy defender headed a ball back across their own goal.
Paguada settled the ball and then finished his chance for a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Tacoma didn’t stop pressing and earned two more goals in the second half thanks to finishes by Miguel Rivera and Derry Rodas-Martinez.
US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup – U17 Boys Highlights
Boise Nationals Timbers (ID) defeated Phoenix Premier FC Black (AZ) to make a strong statement to all the other teams in the 17U Boys division. Roberto Salinas Juarez got the scoring started in just the first minute of play, stealing a pass from a defender and then slotting his shot back post. A PK attempt could have increased the score just a few minutes later but it went sailing over the bar.
Jonah Parsons added Boise’s second, dribbling through three Arizona defenders before hitting his shot beyond the keeper. Salinas Juarez got things going in the second half, playing a ball to Kristian Quiros who boomed a shot beyond the keeper to make it 4-0. Boise kept the pressure on and added three more second-half goals from Kyle Wright, Alejandro Cuevas and Sein Min Lay bringing the final score to 7-0.
US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup – 18U Boys Highlights
LVSA (NV) pulled away in the second half to beat Corning NCU Manchester United (CA-N), 5-1. Miguel Trujillo gave LVSA a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. The defense did not close down the space and Trujillo ripped a blast from distance into the left side net. Eduardo Gomez added another goal for LVSA to give the Nevada side a 2-0 lead heading into half. Alexander Daseler made it a three-goal advantage as he received a ball over the top and finished 1v1 against the keeper.
Corning pulled one back thanks to a good passing sequence in front of net. The ball was slipped to Diego Angel Martinez-Cedano who slammed his shot passed the keeper. Roberto Sotomayor and Tony Olivas both added late goals after getting behind the defense bringing the final score to 5-1

National Championship Series – 12U Boys
Broomfield Blast SC 06 Prestige (CO) was the only team to come out with a cleansheet in the 12U Boys age group. The Colorado side earned a 5-0 result over Utah Arsenal FC (UT) to give it an important three points heading into Day Two. Total Futbol Academy (CA-S) and Pateadores PYL-20006 White (CA-S) sit at the top of their respective groups with three points each. In Group C, Hawks 20006 Academy (CA-S) and Tuzos Academy (AZ) sit tied with three points while Group D’s Broomfield is matched at three points with Laguna United FC – 2006 – Aguirre (CA-S).
National Championship Series – 12U Girls
After one day of play, eight teams remain undefeated while only three were able to keep clean sheets. Legends FC 06 (CA-S), Albion 06 EB (NV) and LA Galaxy Southbay (CA-S) were the only two teams in the 12U Girls age group to keep their opponents from finding the back of the net. Colorado Storm 06 Academy (CO) were the big scorers on the day, finding the back of the net 10 times on its road to victory. Teams will look to fight back on Day Two as no team is out of the hunt for a top two spot in their groups.
