Dallas Cup Enters Final Days in Frisco
Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, is coming to a close with the final fixtures scheduled over the weekend. The 40th anniversary of the tournament has featured elite youth academies from across the globe in the U14 and U19 age groups.
Youth Soccer News: The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup enters its final days of games with the semifinal matchups set for the Gordon Jago Super Group. The final matchup for the Univision Deportes Super 14s is also on the schedule.
The Univision Deportes Super 14s semifinal matches were played Thursday at MoneyGram Soccer Park. The Gordon Jago Super Group semifinals will be played on Friday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
Eintracht Frankfurt U14 (Germany) defeated FC Dallas U4 Academy, 3-2, on Thursday morning. In the second U14 matchup, LA United Futbol Academy recorded a 1-0 victory over Tigres UANL (MEX).
Eintracht Frankfurt and LA United Futbol Academy will play in the U14 final on Saturday, April 20, at Toyota Stadium at 3:00 p.m. ET.
In the Gordon Jago Super Group, crosstown rivals CF Monterrey and Tigres UANL are set to meet in the semifinals for the third consecutive year.
Rayados defeated Tigres in the 2017 matchup, while UANL bounced back and won in 2018. CF Monterrey has won the most Dallas Cup championships in history, but the Mexican club is still in pursuit of its first Super Group title. Defending Super Group champion Tigres has three Super Group championships, the most all-time (2003, 2011, 2018). In addition to this youth clash, the senior sides for CF Monterrey and Tigres UANL are set to meet in the CONCACAF Champions League final later this month.
Villarreal CF and New York City FC is a matchup between two domestic academy champions. Villarreal recently clinched the Group VII title of La Liga’s Division de Honor, an achievement that the club has clinched four out of the past five years. New York City FC is the current U18/U19 USSDA National Champion. Villarreal CF attempts to become the first Spanish Super Group champion since Real Madrid’s back-to-back titles in 1993 and 1994. New York City FC hopes to join FC Dallas (2017) and Dallas Texans (2006) as the only Super Group champions from the United States.
CF Monterrey will play Tigres UANL on Friday at 5:00 p.m. ET at Toyota Stadium. The second semifinal matchup between Villarreal CF and New York City FC will kick off at 8:00 p.m. ET.
