Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Welcomes Back Fluminense FC
Dr Pepper Dallas Cup is one of the most prestigious international youth soccer tournaments in the United States — gathering academy teams from all over around the world to compete in this world class event. Dallas Cup welcomes back Fluminense FC of Brazil for the 2017 edition of the tournament who return for their fourth straight appearance as they look to reach championship glory.
Youth Soccer News: The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, will welcome back Brazilian side Fluminense FC to the elite Gordon Jago Super Group for Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVIII. Based out of Rio De Janeiro, Fluminense is the defending U20 Brazilian academy champion. The club advanced to the 2nd round of this year’s Brazilian U20 Brazilian academy playoffs after finishing undefeated in group play.
2017 will mark the fourth Dallas Cup appearance by Fluminense. The Brazilian side has passed through the group stages and reached the tournament’s semifinals in each of their previous appearances. With a stellar squad each year, which includes more than ten players from those teams having gone on to play professional, Fluminense are still seeking their first Super Group championship.
The 2013 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup marked the first appearance for the club that saw them eliminated by eventual champion, Fulham FC. Fluminense returned the following year at Dallas Cup XXXV, but were ousted in their semifinal game by the U20 US Men’s National Team. This past March, the Brazilian side made their third Dallas Cup appearance that saw them go undefeated in group stage, but ultimately eliminated by a strong Fulham team.
Also returning to the 2017 tournament is Ryutu-Kezai University FC of Japan. Based out of the Tokyo suburb of Ryūgasaki, Ryutu-Kezai came to Dallas Cup in 2014 where despite winning two of their three group stage games, failed to advance to the semifinals. The Japanese side plays in the first division of the Kantō Soccer League and will be looking to become the first Asian team to win the Gordon Jago Super Group.
Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVIII will be held April 9-16, 2017 with over 180 elite clubs from around the world attending the event. Fluminense FC and Ryutu-Kezai University FC will be a part of this prestigious group as they will try to hoist the Gordon Jago Super Group “Boot and Ball” trophy.
