Soccer News: Construction Begins In Vancouver
Construction began this week on the FOX Sports’ media headquarters for its FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015™ coverage, adjacent to the Vancouver Convention Centre in Jack Poole Plaza.
Working in partnership with the Convention Centre, which was instrumental in securing this prime location, FOX Sports’ Women’s World Cup television compound spans more than 7,500 square feet, housing offices, a control room and green room, and sits directly beneath the network’s state-of-the-art, custom-built set.
With assistance from Vancouver-based BC Event Management, FOX Sports’ bi-level structure combines the modern architectural persona of Vancouver with the rich landscape of the region and the international community connected to the Women’s World Cup. The set features different looks for television: a main stage, a day lounge with a water backdrop, an evening lounge with a cityscape, and a soccer demonstration field. The structure is environmentally sound, operating on alternative forms of energy.
Set build-out began May 13 and concludes June 3. Construction of FOX Sports’ custom on-site control room began May 1 and concludes May 18. Following the breakdown of the set in July, most of the construction materials are being donated to local Vancouver-based charity organizations. Build-out for the set is also being streamed online.
