Former Champion Fulham F.C. Joins List of teams for Dallas Cup
Dr Pepper Dallas Cup is approaching in March as top teams are being selected to make an appearance at the prestigious international youth soccer tournament. Fulham F.C. is the latest club to join the tournament and will make its third appearance after winning the 2013 Gordon Jago Super Group “Boot and Ball” championship trophy and last playing in 2014.
Soccer News from Dallas Cup: The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, has announced the return of former champion Fulham F.C. to the tournament’s elite Gordon Jago Super Group. Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVII will take place from March 20 – 27, 2016.
Making their third Dr Pepper Dallas Cup appearance, Fulham won the 2013 Gordon Jago Super Group “Boot and Ball” championship trophy and last appeared in 2014. Those teams featured several players that are currently playing for the first team, including Cauley Woodrow, Lasse Vigen Christensen, and American Emerson Hyndman.
Joining Fulham will be the U-17/18 U.S. Development Academy sides from Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas. In last year’s tournament, the Real Salt Lake academy finished second in their group to eventual champion Coritiba. The team, based in Casa Grande, Arizona, currently features the U-17/18 U.S. Development Academy leading goal scorer, Elijah Rice, who has scored 17 goals in his first 15 games. For the third consecutive year, FC Dallas qualified for the tournament as the highest ranked local team in the U-17/18 U.S. Development Academy standings.
It was also announced that Southampton F.C. has withdrawn from this year’s tournament. The change was precipitated when a scheduling conflict arose from a recently rescheduled league game.
