MexTour to Visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta
The Mexican National Team will host a series of friendly matches in the United States ahead of Concacaf Gold Cup this summer. Recently added to the calendar is one meeting versus Iceland in Texas and another versus Honduras in Georgia. The Mexican National Team’s U.S. Tour will visit various cities across the United States in 2021. It will be broadcasted nationally on the Univision family of networks and Fútbol de Primera Radio Network.
SOCCER NEWS: The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) has announced that its men’s side will take on Concacaf rival Honduras on Saturday, June 12, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM (EST) as part of the MexTour, the matchup comes ahead of the Concacaf Gold Cup in July.
Mexico and Honduras have faced off on 37 occasions, with “El Tri” recording 23 wins, eight draws and six losses. Their last meeting was October 10, 2017, at a FIFA World Cup qualifying match won by Honduras.
The friendly match will be hosted at the home of Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United and the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Mercedes-Benz Stadium hosted the Mexican National Team in 2019. This match marked Mexico Manager Tata Martino’s return to the venue where he won the MLS Cup with Atlanta United in 2018. Mexico has played in Atlanta on several occasions since its first visit in 2009.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Mexico will begin the 2021 MexTour against Iceland at AT&T Stadium. In addition, at least three additional games are expected to be added to the tour this year. Opponents, dates and locations have yet to be determined.
Tickets for the Atlanta match will go on sale on Monday, May 10, at 10 a.m. E.T. Tickets will be available here.
