NASL Matches Postponed Due to Hurricane Matthew Weather Concerns
Soccer never stops – well, in some cases weather conditions may be the only factor that can put a hold on the beautiful game. Recent weather concerns relating to Hurricane Matthew has seen two NASL matches rescheduled for later dates. The NASL has issued statements addressing the concern for player safety as Week 15 action of the Fall Season continues on Saturday.
NASL Soccer News: The North American Soccer League (NASL) has announced that two matches this weekend will be rescheduled due to unsafe weather conditions relating to Hurricane Matthew.
Originally scheduled for Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park, the Carolina RailHawks and Fort Lauderdale Strikers matchup has been moved to Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, while Jacksonville Armada FC and Indy Eleven will play at a later date after having their Saturday encounter moved.
The Strikers will be traveling to Cary, N.C., while the Armada FC-Indy Eleven match was scheduled at Community First Park in Jacksonville for Saturday night.
“After consulting with the League and Fort Lauderdale, we agreed that rescheduling the game to Sunday was the safest option for all involved,” said RailHawks President and General Manager Curt Johnson. “We expect a good competitive game on Sunday and look forward to the game as we make a push for the playoffs.”
The league does not expect the weather concerns associated with Hurricane Matthew to affect any additional weekend matches.
“We would like to thank everyone involved, particularly Indy’s ownership and staff, for their understanding and support as we work through this situation,” said Jacksonville Armada FC Owner and NASL Chairman Mark Frisch. “At this time, what’s most important is focusing on everyone’s safety. We’ll return to the field when conditions permit, and you can expect an announcement from us soon on the rescheduling of this match.”
