Italy’s Serie B Partners with Global Image Sports
Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie B (“Serie B”) announced a formal partnership with Global Image Sports (GIS), to build the Italian League’s presence at youth level in North America.
Paolo Bedin, Serie B’s Managing Director said, “We are looking forward to working with GIS in North America. We see many benefits to our Member Clubs in working with youth players in North America and we also believe that we have much to offer them as well.”
GIS Chief Operating Officer, Mike Kelleher said, “We are extremely honoured to announce this partnership with Serie B and its’ Clubs. We look forward to offering the young soccer players and coaches of North America greater opportunities in terms of player development, coach education and all round soccer experiences. Italian football offers a different perspective on the world game and it’s second tier league has some wonderful clubs with great history and tradition. ”
Phase one of the project will see Serie B formally partner with a select number of youth league’s and organizations across the United States and Canada. The first such affiliation will be with the 26 Club Atlantic Soccer League, which sees the ASL Club’s coaches and players having the opportunity to work with the Academy coaches of Serie B in both North America and Italy, offering an insight into the philosophy of youth player development at professional level in one of world football’s leading nations and four time FIFA World Cup winners.
ASL Commissioner Kevin Darcy said, “ASL is proud to enter in to a strategic partnership with GIS and Serie B. The professionalism of these organizations and their direction with player development and identification is a perfect match for our member clubs and most importantly the ASL players. We look forward to a long term relationship and are excited about the opportunity.”
Soccer’s popularity has grown in America signficantly during the past decade and that interest now intrigues European leagues. With the amazing and vast number of youth soccer players in the USA, it is a smart decision for Serie B to reach out to the shores of what used to be the land without real football. With the Barcelona fever sweeping through the ranks of youth coaches and players, it is time now for Italian soccer to show off its moves.
