U.S. Women’s National Team Roster Named for Romania Friendlies
The USWNT is gearing up for its final matches of the calendar year as head coach Jill Ellis names 24 players to her training camp roster scheduled for the beginning of November. The squads builds upon the promising young talent representing the U.S. in October along with five veterans returning to the roster.
Soccer News: United States National Team head coach Jill Ellis named 24 players to the training camp roster ahead of two matches against Romania scheduled for November 10th at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Calif. (7 p.m. PT on ESPN2) and November 13th at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. (6:30 p.m. PT on FS1). Ellis will name 18 players to suit up for the USWNT’s final games of 2016.
Ellis named 11 uncapped players to the USA’s roster for its matches against Switzerland earlier this month, with six of those individuals earning their first caps.
Of those six players, five return to this roster: Lynn Williams, Kealia Ohai, defender Casey Short, defender Abby Dahlkemper and midfielder Andi Sullivan.
Along with Williams, Western New York Flash midfielder Samantha Mewis and defender Abby Dahlkemper will be returning to the National Team roster after playing in the two friendlies against Switzerland. WNY defender Jaelene Hinkle will also attend the upcoming training camp after spending time with the National Team over the past two years.
Two uncapped players have been called up in goalkeeper Adrianna Franch, who has been with the U.S. squad for several camps over the last few years, and first time call-up Kristen Edmonds, who led the Orlando Pride with six goals during the 2016 NWSL season.
In addition, five veterans of the 2015 Women’s World Cup Team and 2016 Olympic Team return to the roster: defenders Julie Johnston, Meghan Klingenberg and Ali Krieger, midfielder Megan Rapinoe and forward Alex Morgan.
“Our last training camp and games with Switzerland were extremely positive in regards to giving new players a chance to perform, continuing the process of deepening the player pool and fostering competition within the squad,” said Ellis. “With this dynamic mix of players, we are looking forward to the environment and to finishing off the year on a winning note.”
