Shinji Kagawa Extends Contract With Borussia Dortmund
Shinji Kagawa has signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga, keeping the Japanese international at the club until 2020. Kagawa has featured 88 times for the Japanese national team, scoring 27 goals.
Soccer News: Borussia Dortmund has announced that Shinji Kagawa signed a new contract, keeping the Japanese international at the club until June 30, 2020. On the first day of the club’s pre-season trip to Asia, Sporting Director Michael Zorc made the announcement.
“We are delighted that Shinji has decided to stay at Borussia Dortmund for the next three years”, said Zorc. “Shinji feels a very strong connection to this club, the city and our fans. And as one of the more experienced members of the squad, he has a key role to play in what overall is a young team.”
The 28-year-old Kagawa has been at Borussia Dortmund since 2010, aside from a two-year stint fulfilling a childhood dream playing for Manchester United in the Premier League. He has played 127 Bundesliga matches, scoring 36 goals and assisting another 33, as well as 57 games in European cup competitions and the DFB Cup, scoring 18 goals.
“BVB, with its unbelievable fans, has really grown very dear to me,” said Kagawa. “I am very glad that I will remain a part of this incredible club in one of the best leagues in the world with the highest viewing figures.”
The versatile midfielder was one of the cornerstones en route to the German league title in 2011 as well as 2012, and he was heavily involved in the DFB Cup wins of 2012 and 2017. Kagawa scored the first goal in the final against FC Bayern Munich (5-2) in 2012. In the final against Eintracht Frankfurt (2017), he set the pace of the encounter. Now follow at least three more years playing in Black and Yellow.
