Soccer News: Higgins and Baimagambetov Score Two Goals Each
The L.A. Wolves FC (1-0-0) scored a 5-1 victory over Del Rey City SC (0-0-1) as the two clubs meet Sunday night at the Toyota Sports Complex in the opening home match of the 2015 Summer UPSL Season.
The Wolves received a stellar performance from forwards Sam Higgins and Damir Baimagambetov who both netted two goals each to lead Wolves to victory. The win gave the L.A. Wolves a four-game winning streak, which includes victories in the past few weeks including the Admiral Cup which the Wolves are now in the third round of play.
The first half for the Wolves started off with moving the ball around and creating scoring chances. Forward Higgins would get the Wolves on the board first in the 15’ minute of play after a bad Del Rey pass in the back that landed on Higgins foot. Higgins calmly dribbled by the Del Rey keeper and touching the ball home giving the Wolves the 1-0 lead. The Wolves would extend the lead and make it 2-0 after a great series of quick passes that lead to a cross from the right side to Midfielder Diego Turoldo who made no mistake and netted the ball home. The Wolves would make it 3-0 with Higgins again scoring off a nice pass from Midfielder Paulo Cordoza. Del Rey fought hard the whole half and it paid off as Del Rey found the net to make it 3-1 after a Wolves miscue in the back which is where the half would end.
After a halftime break, the Wolves started the second half with the petal on the metal as Wolves fan favorite Baimagambetov netted two more goals to lead Wolves to a 5-1 victory which is where the match would finish. The win gave the L.A. Wolves a tie for first place in the 12-team UPSL Western Conference.
Yan Skwara, L.A Wolves FC Head Coach. “We are starting to get a rhythm with some of the new players combining with last season’s starters, which is what we want. We simply need to keep working on our one-touch game as that is what I tell the boys is the end game. They are really starting to see the difference and tonight we had good moments of one touch play with some good movement left and right. Del Rey fought hard, but we simply outplayed them. Now we have to prepare for next weekend’s match against a tough PSA Elite, which will be a good test for us.”
The L.A. Wolves next game will be this coming Sunday, May 24, 2015 vs PSA Elite U-23 at Lake Forest Sports Complex.
