L.A. Wolves Crowned Cal South Adult State Cup Champions
L.A. Wolves FC continues their successful season after winning the annual Cal South Adult State Cup in dominant fashion. The Wolves now prepare for the USASA National Finals in August as elite adult teams from across the nation gather in Wisconsin next month. Capturing the spirit of the American dream, this team, and its leadership is leaving their mark on the landscape of men’s soccer in the USA.
Soccer News: L.A. Wolves FC were crowned Cal South Adult State Cup champions after edging FC Long Beach in the final last weekend. The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) club moves on to the USASA National Finals, which are being held the weekend of August 4-5 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
L.A. went undefeated in group play, tallying 22 goals and conceding six in a total of three matches. In the quarterfinals, L.A. was led by Charles Pitts who recorded a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over San Pedro Monsters FC-USOC.
In a semifinal matchup versus Moreno Valley FC, the Wolves earned a berth to the finals with a 4-3 overtime victory.
The UPSL side went on to defeat FC Long Beach in a dominant 4-0 victory at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Stadium.
“Cal South did a great job in activating the Adult teams in the region to participate in a very well organized Cup tournament with a solid prize,” said Yan Skwara, L.A. Wolves FC General Manager and President. “Winning the State Cup is an honor and this has now put the L.A. Wolves in a position to represent our region.”
The Wolves received $7,500 in prize money for their efforts with more excellence to come from the club that advanced to the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup during the past two years.
Preparation begins for the USASA National Finals as the Wolves take on elite adult competition from across the nation.
“This will be the test for us as we are competing with three other top teams for the National Cup in two must win games,” said Skwara. “Coach Eric Wynalda has done a great job in molding our squad the past six months so we will be ready and hopefully we will come back with some more hardware.”
Paolo Cardozo has continued to be a major asset for the Wolves, along with forwards Miguel Sanchez and Chuck Pitts. L.A. is led in the back by defenders Chris Klute and Gabe Robinson, while Duncan Capriotti and Paublo Cruz have provided a spark in the midfield.
The Wolves’ next game is a Conference Playoff matchup versus PSC Football Club on Sunday, July 16, at Lake Forest Sport Park, CA. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT.
