LA Galaxy Academy set to take part in Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup and Generation adidas Cup in Dallas
The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18’s and Under-16’s are set to travel to Dallas to take part in the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup (Galaxy U-18’s) and the finals of the Generation adidas U-17 Cup (Galaxy U-16’s) starting on Sunday, April 13.
The 35th edition of the Dallas Cup is set to take place April 13-20 in Dallas, Texas. The Galaxy Academy U-18 squad was placed in Bracket B of the Gordon Jago Super Group along with U-19 sides RSC Anderlecht of Belgium, Fluminense FC of Brazil and Chivas Guadalajara of Mexico. The LA Galaxy U-18’s will be participating in the tournament’s invitation-only Gordon Jago Super Group for a second-consecutive year.
“We are both excited and honored to take part in such a prestigious international tournament,” said LA Galaxy Academy U-18 Head Coach Razov. “We are confident we can compete against top international clubs. This will be a fantastic experience for all our players and an opportunity we will embrace.”
The Galaxy U-18’s will play Anderlecht at 9:30 a.m. PT on the campus of Richland College on Sunday, April 13.
The U-18’s will then play its second match a day later against Fluminense at Richland College at 10 a.m. PT. The Galaxy U-18’s concludes Bracket B play against Chivas Guadalajara on Wednesday, April 16. The location and time of the match will be determined by results in the first two rounds across Super Group Brackets A, B and C with the purpose being to hold the two most potentially dramatic games of bracket play in the Cotton Bowl.
The LA Galaxy U-16 squad was placed in Group B alongside Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC and England’s Stoke City for the finals of the 2013-14 Generation adidas U-17 Cup.
The tournament kicks off April 14 and features U-17 teams from 17 MLS Clubs and three international clubs, including Chivas de Guadalajara, Flamengo (Brazil) and Stoke City (England). The week-long tournament is hosted by FC Dallas, presented by Major League Soccer and sponsored by adidas, and will take place at the Toyota Soccer Center at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
“The LA Galaxy Academy U-16’s have earned the right to compete against some of the world’s top Academies within the international group of the GA Cup,” said LA Galaxy Academy U-16 Head Coach Muñoz. “We look forward to using this tournament as a platform to continue to progress the development of our young players.”
The Galaxy U-16’s will play their first game of the tournament on Monday, April 14, against Stoke City U-17’s at 4 p.m. CT at Toyota Soccer Center’s Field 4. On Tuesday, April 15, the Galaxy side will take on Toronto FC at 4 p.m. CT at Field 8, followed with a matchup against the Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy U-17’s on Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m. on Field 8. The Galaxy U-16’s competed in two regional events from August 2013 through February 2014, finishing in the top three in the standings and earning a spot the Generation adidas Cup international event.
