Youth Soccer News: LA Galaxy Orange County G03 Premier are preparing to compete in the National Premier League Finals held July 13-17 in Grand Park Westfield, Indiana.
Following a stellar campaign in the SoCal National Premier League, the LA Galaxy affiliate was crowned champions after winning eight matches and recording one draw in league play.
Head coach Tim Woodcock’s side scored 17 goals in nine matches during the NPL Spring League, while only conceding four. Woodcock highlights his team’s defense as well as forward Clarissa Garcia providing huge sparks for their success.
“If we can maintain our defense then we stand a chance against anybody,” said Woodcock.
Woodcock recalls a performance during the season versus Legends FC as providing inspiration for the possibilities they are able to achieve on the pitch.
“It was a very aggressive match where neither side could break the draw,” said Woodcock. “Garcia provided a moment of magic as she flicked the ball over a defender and struck it home. That gave the team the belief that in big challenges, if we keep tight and don’t give anything away, one of our players can come up with a moment of magic to win a game.”
Woodcock is excited for the opportunity as well as the incredible experience the national tournament will provide his players.
“As a life experience, learning to look after themselves, being responsible for their mental and physical conditions is going to be important,” said Woodcock. “They are going to be out of their comfort zone, but it is an experience that helps a player grow stronger.”
LA Galaxy OC will put their skills to the test as they play top ranked teams in the nation. Their opening match on Thursday, July 13, will be against PDA South Nova, the No. 23 ranked team in New Jersey.
The teams follows up with a match on Friday versus SUSA NPL G03, the No. 1 team in New York and No. 3 in the nation. Galaxy’s final group matchup will be against Liverpool 03 Girls Elite who are ranked No. 1 in North Texas and No. 24 in the nation.
“It’s going to be extremely challenging but that’s all part of the experience,” said Woodcock. “We’re looking forward to it as it allows the girls to see what is next.”
