Liverpool to Host Real Madrid In Charity Match
The Liverpool FC Foundation will be hosting a charity match between Liverpool FC Legends and Real Madrid Legends with proceeds donated to the organization’s local partnerships. The aim of the LFC Foundation is to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people.
Soccer News: Liverpool FC Foundation, the club’s official charity, has announced the first ever official legends match set to be held at Anfield. What a great idea to bring the best of the legends together for a match and raise funds at the same time.
This spring, Liverpool FC Legends will take one Real Madrid Legends in a charity match on Saturday, March 25th, 2017.
The legends match will see the Reds face off against the Spanish side in a rematch of the Corazón Classic game that took place in June 2015 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Real Madrid Legends came from 2-0 down to edge Liverpool FC Legends 4-2 in a thrilling victory in front of a 70,000 strong crowd.
Liverpool FC Ambassador Robbie Fowler will captain the Reds, while the club’s top goal scorer, Ian Rush, will serve as player manager for the team.
Some of the former players confirmed to play on the Reds squad include; Ian Rush, Gary McAllister, Luis Garcia, Jamie Carragher, Patrik Berger, Salif Diao, Jerzy Dudek, Stephane Henchoz, Jason McAteer, Vladimir Smicer, David Thompson, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Sander Westerveld, Didi Hamann, John Aldridge, John Arne Riise, Phil Babb, Daniel Agger and Michael Owen.
Real Madrid’s team will also feature a top line-up of stars including: Roberto Carlos da Silva, Emilio Butragueño, Luis Figo and Steven McManaman.
All proceeds from the game will go to the LFC Foundation. Funds raised will support the charity’s programs and partnerships, which aim to improve the health and life chances of children and young people in Merseyside and beyond.
Fowler, captain of the Liverpool FC Legends team said: “We’re really looking forward to playing Real Madrid next spring. We hope to put on a really good show for our fans in the first legends game held at Anfield, whilst raising funds for the Liverpool FC Foundation.”
