Liverpool FC unveils new home kit at Anfield
SoccerToday Soccer Locker Review: Liverpool FC players’ Daniel Sturridge, Simon Mignolet, Raheem Sterling and Martin Skrtel revealed the Reds’ home kit for the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season at Anfield in front of thousands of fans.
The kit in the unmistakable Liverpool red is the first to be designed by New Balance, LFC’s new official kit supplier. It adopts a chequerboard pattern that takes inspiration from the red and white mosaic pattern created when the fans on the Kop hold their LFC flags and scarfs aloft on match day.
The kit has a sleek style, which celebrates the classic moments of LFC’s history and is reminiscent of shirts that club legends like Kenny Dalglish wore as part of the dominant side in the 1980s. The simplicity of the design honours the illustrious heritage of Liverpool FC.
Billy Hogan, Chief Commercial Officer, Liverpool FC, said: “We are very excited to be launching our first kit in partnership with New Balance, which is one of the world’s leading sportswear brands.
“Like LFC, New Balance has over 100 years of heritage and it’s fitting that the first kit launched as part of this record-breaking partnership celebrates the Club’s illustrious history and worldwide fan base.”
Free tickets for fans to attend the unveiling at Anfield were released through LFC stores and the thousands in attendance were encouraged to hold nothing back, recreating the famous Anfield match day atmosphere. They gave a rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone, holding their scarves aloft and made noise, causing a curtain to drop revealing the four players wearing the new kit. Liverpool FC, Vice-Captain Jordan Henderson said: “Our fans create a great atmosphere at Anfield, and it is great to have a kit that reflects the red and white mosaic made when the fans on the Kop hold their flags and scarfs aloft. The kit feels great and I’m pleased the New Balance team considered what the players need from a kit when it was designed. The material is very comfortable and the players are delighted with the result.”
The 2015/16 shirt is has been made using New Balance’s dry moisture wicking technology, NB Dry, and offers both ease of movement and breathability to keep players cool, dry and comfortable.
Richard Wright, General Manager of New Balance Football, said: “As we enter into a new era between New Balance and Liverpool Football Club, we want to celebrate the sacred bond between the club, the fans and the players. We have worked closely with LFC throughout the design process and I believe the product team has captured this bond in the shirt textile design. At New Balance we pride ourselves in being at the forefront of technical innovation and this shirt sets the benchmark for football performance wear.”
