Youth Soccer News: Special youth soccer camp program featuring the training practices of Manchester City’s Academy system and famous EPL First Team coming to San Diego for one special 4-day program from July 20th – 23rd.
Manchester City Football Club is one of the world’s leading soccer teams. This Premier League football club, based of course in Manchester, England, dates back to 1880. With star players like Sergio Agüero, Joe Hart, Yaya Touré, David Silva, Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany on the field, Manchester City FC is packed with talent. Always looking ahead, Manchester City FC has a highly respected youth academy developing tomorrow’s soccer stars. With highly trained youth soccer coaches who are dedicated to helping elite players take their game to the next level, the Manchester City FC Academy is one of the highest ranked development programs in the world.
Earlier this year, Manchester City FC announced a ground-breaking five-year partnership with San Diego Surf Soccer Club. The partnership is the first of its kind for a Barclays Premier League club in the United States. The first collaborative event was the successful 2015 Manchester City FC Americas Cup which marked the official start of the youth soccer development partnership between Manchester City FC and San Diego based Surf Cup Sports. The unique opportunity to train with Manchester City Academy and City Schools coaches is this partnership’s second event.
“We are extremely excited to be hosting the camp held by MCFC this year. We feel that it is a fantastic opportunity for kids in San Diego to have exposure to the top-class development philosophies of one of the largest football clubs in the world,” said Mark Spooner, Surf SC Girls DOC U8-U13. This special, 4-day program will be held from July 20th – 23rd and has very limited space available. Click here for more information and to register.
The Manchester City coaches are looking forward to working with the American youth soccer players and sharing their knowledge. Mark Allen, the Director of the Academy and Jason Wilcox, the U18 Academy coach watched several games at the Manchester City Americas Cup and were impressed with the range of talent on the field. “The talent of youth soccer in Southern California has improved dramatically,” said Allen. “The San Diego Surf SC U14 Development Academy players I trained were all very eager to learn and quickly absorbed the training drills. It was a pleasure working with them,” said Wilcox. The youth soccer training sessions will include some of the same drills and techniques as used in the Academy in England.
“After speaking personally to the MCFC staff who were involved in the MCFC Americas Cup earier this year, it was clear that this partnership was very exciting for them. Both organizations are committed to making this a lasting relationship. This high quality camp is the next big step in strengthening the bridge between our two Clubs,” said Ryan Guy, Assistant Director USSF Development Academy.
Southern California youth soccer families have so many options for training during the summer months – what makes this program so special is that it is very rare to have more than one or two real EPL Academy coaches training together at a camp. This program has five highly respected MCFC coaches visiting San Diego to work with soccer youths. Manchester City is one of the best clubs on the planet and the academy coaches are acclaimed for developing individual players, not just having their teams win at the weekend. The goal of a Manchester City Academy coach is to spot talent and develop it to its fullest — or in other words, develop home grown players for the first team. This camp is an amazing opportunity to learn insider tips for those players who dream of becoming their best.
“When I was growing up as a young player, I could only dream of a club like Manchester City coming to my youth Club to put on a camp like this!” said Paul Dolinsky, U15/U17 ECNL Head Coach. Dolinsky left his home in America when he was 16 to train abroad to become a professional.
This elite, player development focused program will include an exciting and fun football experience with:
- A team of full-time coaches coming to San Diego from Manchester City
- Delivering a coaching curriculum designed to follow the philosophy and training practices of Manchester City’s Academy system and First Team
- A series of skills development sessions based on the individual techniques of City’s first team
- A program of small sided games to create realistic situations where players can transfer their skills and game understanding.
