Lionel Messi Won His 6th Ballon d’Or
For Messi fans, yes, he won the great honor, again. FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi won the men’s Ballon d’Or for a record sixth time. The Ballon d’Or is one of the sport’s most prestigious individual awards and was previously FIFA’s award for the best players of the year from 2010 to 2015.
The award was created in 1956 by France Football, a French weekly magazine focused on soccer.
In 2018, the Ballon d’Or was awarded to female players for the first time, with Olympique Lyonnais’ Ada Hegerberg the inaugural winner.
