Xolos U17s Came Out on Top Above Rayados de Monterrey
Two strong teams from Mexico faced off this weekend – the Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles hosted Rayados de Monterrey Saturday at Estadio Caliente. Xolos’U20 played to a 2-2 tie but the U17s dominated and commanded a win.
The Xolos are so close the San Diego, CA it is important to keep an eye on this talented club as many players and fans cross over the border.

Leonardo Velasco scored a pair of goals and Victor Guzman added another for the Xoloitzcuintles.
Angel Zepeda and Victor Lopez found the net for the Rayados in the 2019 Clausura LIGA MX match.
The win gives coach Ildefonso Mendoza’s team three more points in the standings. The Xoloitzcuintles also added an extra point by winning the post-match penalty kick shootout.
Velasco opened up the scoring when he took a pass from the right side of the penalty box and sent it off the left post and into the net for a Club Tijuana 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute of the Week 11 match.
Monterrey’s Zapata tied the match in the 15th minute for the visitors via a penalty kick.
Guzman broke the tie for the Xoloitzcuintles lead to 2-1in the 34th minute when he volleyed a shot off a Monterrey defender deflection. Velasco added his second of the afternoon when he sent a shot from right to left on a breakaway that started off a Monterrey erroneous pass from its back line.
Monterrey’s Lopez cut the lead in the 88th minute but Club Tijuana held on to secure the win.
The Xoloitzcuintles will next face Queretaro FC on the road March 30 in a Week 12 match.
