D.C. United Score Late to Draw Columbus Crew
D.C. United rally late to draw Columbus Crew 1-1 Saturday afternoon at MAPFRE Stadium. Ola Kamara opened up scoring in the 63rd minute, but United’s Fabian Espindola was able to bring the match level in the final minutes of play.
MLS Soccer News: Columbus Crew SC and D.C. United played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd at MAPFRE Stadium.
Columbus Crew SC Captain and defender Michael Parkhurst made his 200th career Major League Soccer regular-season appearance as he becomes the 117th player in league history to hit the 200 appearances milestone.
Ola Kamara opened up scoring in the 63rd minute to give the home side a 1-0 advantage heading into the final stretch of the match. This marked Kamara’s ninth 2016 regular-season goal for Crew SC, with all nine goals coming after May 28th. Tony Tchani and Harrison Afful both recorded an assist on the opening goal of the match.
D.C. United’s Fabian Espindola brought the match level in the 89th minute off a strike from just inside the area. United has continued to rally late in games, which questions the depth of the visiting squad on Saturday.
“I think we’re a deeper team. Sometimes, it comes down to what type of guns you have on the bench and who can come in and change the game. We have some guys that have been able to make a difference and that’s a very healthy thing,” said D.C. United head coach Ben Olsen.
Both teams’ next match will be on Saturday as Crew SC host Orlando City SC at MAPFRE Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET and D.C. United travel to take on Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m. ET.
