LA Galaxy Forward Giovani dos Santos Voted MLS Player of the Week
Republished News from MLS – LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the seventh week of the 2016 MLS season.
In his first full match since returning from injury, dos Santos showed he was back to full strength with a tremendous performance in last week’s Viernes de Futbol match. The Mexican international scored two goals and registered one assist to power LA to a 4-1 road victory over the Houston Dynamo and extend the team’s unbeaten streak to four matches.
With Houston notching the opening goal in the first minute, LA needed a quick reply and dos Santos delivered with his first tally of the season. In the fourth minute, dos Santos found himself alone in the box after a failed clearance and fired a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Joe Willis to draw the Galaxy even (Watch Goal).
Dos Santos added his second goal in the 31st minute through a beautiful sequence, collecting a perfect ball from Steven Gerrard with a deft touch that he then volleyed to the far corner to extend the lead to two (Watch Goal). Further adding to his standout performance, dos Santos provided an assist on Gyasi Zardes’ goal in the 49th minute to give LA a final 4-1 advantage (Watch Assist).
The LA Galaxy return to action this Saturday when they host undefeated Real Salt Lake at the StubHub Center (10:30 p.m. ET., MLS LIVE).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
