The Cosmos, who claimed the Fall Season title, enter The Championship as the tournament’s top seed. New York recorded the most points in the NASL this season to earn the No. 1 seed for the second straight year. New York was the host city for last year’s title match, which saw the Cosmos lift the Soccer Bowl Trophy with a 3-2 win over Ottawa Fury FC.
“We’re very proud to reach The Championship for the fourth year in a row,” said Cosmos COO Erik Stover. “Gio and his staff have done an incredible job bringing so much success to this great club.”
Indy Eleven holds the No. 2 seed thanks to its undefeated Spring Season campaign that ended with the club hoisting its first piece of silverware. The Boys in Blue finished with the second most combined points behind New York.
“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished this season – it has been a historic year for us,” said Indy Eleven President Jeff Belskus. “The club is very excited for the upcoming semifinal game, and we look forward to the possibility of hosting the championship game here in Indianapolis. I know the community is thrilled about it as well and we look forward to packing The Mike on Saturday.”
FC Edmonton (No. 3) and Rayo OKC (No. 4) qualified for the postseason by combined records of both the Spring and Fall Season. For the Eddies, this season marks the first time the club has made the postseason since 2011.
“From our team on the pitch to everyone in the front office, our organization is ecstatic about our upcoming match versus Indy Eleven,” said FC Edmonton President Jay Ball. “We’ll be following the boys closely this weekend, and we’re looking forward to sharing our excitement with the City of Edmonton. We have had several outstanding performances throughout the season, but everyone here knows that our best is still to come.”
Should Indy Eleven or FC Edmonton host The Championship Final, it would be the first NASL title game in either city. For more on the postseason, visit the NASL’s official page for The Championship here.
