Miami FC Game-Winner Earns NASL Play of the Week Honors
Miami FC received NASL Play of the Week honors following the club’s game-winner versus Spring Season Champs Indy Eleven. Substitute Blake Smith switched the attack from the left flank to a lone Ariel Martinez who controlled the ball and put in a strike from outside the box in the bottom right corner. Miami are on a three-game unbeaten streak as they head to NSC Stadium to take on Minnesota United before retuning home for the final Florida Clásico versus the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
NASL Soccer News: The Miami FC took down the league-leading Indy Eleven last week. A beautiful combination between super subs Blake Smith and Ariel Martinez led to the eventual game-winner, with the fantastic play earning NASL Play of the Week honors.
Late in the second half, Smith made a strong run from the left back position and found some open space in the attacking third. With a quick look up, Smith saw Martinez open on the opposite wing and sent a perfect ball that landed right on the button.
Martinez then controlled the ball and took on two Indy defenders. With the defense on their heels, Martinez quickly cut inside and fired off a shot, beating the keeper near post for a 2-0 Miami FC lead.
The Miami FC would go on to take three points from the Spring Season Champs 2-1.
The Miami FC is on the road this week, but return home August 13 to take on the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the final Florida Clásico match of 2016.
