Vincenzo Rennella Named NASL Player of the Month
Vincenzo Rennella has been named NASL Player of the Month after leading his side to three victories during the month of June. Thanks to the efforts of Rennella and his teammates, Miami is on the verge of collecting its first piece of silverware in club history.
NASL Soccer News: With four goals in four league matches during the month of June, Miami FC forward Vincenzo Rennella has received North American Soccer League (NASL) Player of the Month honors.
The 28-year-old forward led Miami to a perfect record in June, scoring in three of the four victories. The highlight for Rennella came on June 17th when he tallied two goals and an assist in Miami’s 4-0 victory over Jacksonville Armada FC.
A native of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, Rennella came on as a substitute to score the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over FC Edmonton on June 10th. After his masterful performance against Jacksonville – one that earned him NASL Player of the Week honors – he found the back of the net again in the Orange and Blue’s 2-1 victory over the New York Cosmos on June 24th.
Rennella’s red-hot month extended his exceptional run of form that began in May. Between May 6th and June 24th, a span of eight league matches, he scored eight goals. Through 14 league games in 2017, Rennella leads the league in both goals (8) and assists (4).
Heading into the weekend, head coach Alessandro Nesta’s side leads the San Francisco Deltas, who will be visiting Riccardo Silva Stadium on Saturday, by four points with two matches to play. A win on Saturday night would give Miami the NASL Spring Season Championship. A draw could also do it, but Jacksonville would need to draw or lose to Puerto Rico FC this week.
Rennella joined Miami on loan from Spanish side Real Valladolid last year before making the permanent move to South Florida prior to the 2017 season. The 6-foot-2 forward has played in some of the world’s top leagues, including LaLiga (Spain) and Serie A (Italy).
In addition, Rennella earned a spot on the NASL’s Team of the Month for June along with Miami FC midfielder Richie Ryan getting nods.
Both players were imperative in yet another strong month for the Orange and Blue. Miami was picture-perfect, winning all six of their matches in all competitions. The team took 12 points from four NASL matches and outscored their opponents 8-1. They also advanced past the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with wins over two MLS sides, Orlando City SC and Atlanta United FC.
