NASL Strong Season Launch Spring Week 1
In partnership with The Miami Foundation and the Play for Change Foundation, Miami FC’s mission is to connect with Miami’s communities through the global language of soccer — and to play great soccer.
Miami FC is looking good this NASL season — while it is only Week 1, the team co-owned by Riccardo Silva and world-renowned soccer superstar Paolo Maldini will compete in the U.S. Open Cup and their standout, Poku, has been named to the first NASL Team of the Week of 2017.
Although the opening few minutes did not look like a winning start — giving up an early goal was not the ideal beginning, Poku played the hero and equalized in the 14th minute. And the match stayed that way till the end.
Miami — also known as the ‘Orange and Blue’ – opened its season last week on the road against North Carolina FC. The club left Cary, N.C. with a point after fighting hard for a 1-1 draw.
From the Press Release:
After his shot was initially saved, Poku would end up accidentally blocking his teammates follow up attempt. Poku quickly recovered to finally put the ball in the back of the net.In 71 minutes of blistering action, superstar-in-the-making Poku completed 20 of 26 passes, and created a scoring chance and put both his shots on target.
The Miami FC ends a two-match road trip, this Saturday, April 1 when the club travels to the Empire State to take on the New York Cosmos.
The Orange and Blue finally return to Miami for the Home Opener, presented by MetroPCS, April 8 as the Cosmos make the trip down South. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the football stadium at FIU!
The Miami FC is Miami’s only professional soccer team and began playing in the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 2016.
