NC Battalion’s Eric Lopez Named Mitre NPSL Player of the Week
Ahead of NC Battalion’s clash with San Diego rival Albion SC Pros, Eric Lopez is in fine form and is named Mitre National Player of the Week. The Cal State San Marcos alumni tallied his first two goals of the season against FC Hasental as the club prepares for a night full of action in the third week of the NPSL.
Soccer News: North County Battalion forward Eric Lopez has been selected as the Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2016 NPSL season. Congratulations Eric!
The San Diego, CA native recorded his first 2 goals of the season last weekend vs. FC Hasental. “I’m very proud of Eric and his achievement,” Battalion head coach Ryan Guy commented. “His athleticism and commitment to achieving excellence are special qualities and it was fantastic to see those come together in such a confident and comprehensive performance.” Guy is also a youth soccer coach for San Diego Surf SC. Formerly with MLS’ New England Revolution, Guy is an active professional player on the Guam National Team.
Lopez is a 2010 graduate of Scripps Ranch High School and playing on the starting squad at Cal State San Marcos. While at CSUSM, Lopez became the program’s all-time leading goal scorer and was captain for two years.
“It’s an honor to be named the Mitre National Player of the Week,” Lopez added. “I know there are a lot of great players out there that could have easily earned this award and I am very grateful I was able to be among them. It’s a privilege playing for NC Battalion and with all of my great teammates to whom I owe this award to more than myself. We are a new team in this league, but we are much more than that. The backing we as players have from the coaching staff, the owners, and most importantly, our peers is unbelievable. I want to thank our owners, my coach, and most importantly my teammates for helping me achieve this great award.”
Guy states, “Eric is a motivated and gifted athlete with a fantastic attitude and great technical ability. These are the makings of a great player. I look forward to his growth and future in this game!”
