San Diego Welcomes New UPSL Team
The UPSL will welcome a new San Diego club for the 2019 Fall Season. Founded in 2012, San Diego Internacional FC is now affiliated and a member of the UPSL, U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). San Diego Internacional Futbol Club will play in the UPSL’s Western Conference.

UPSL Soccer news: The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) has announced San Diego Internacional Futbol Club as its latest expansion club set to kick off during the 2019 Fall Season.
Based in America’s Finest City, San Diego Internacional Futbol Club will play in the UPSL Western Conference SoCal Division and host its home matches at Mission Bay High School.
“San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in North America, and we’re pleased to welcome San Diego Internacional Futbol Club to the UPSL for the upcoming Fall Season,” said Matt Kahla, United Premier Soccer League National Director. “Owner Alex Macias, Sr., has a vision for how soccer needs to be played and we’re excited to bring his level of passion and commitment as the UPSL continues to grow in San Diego. The soccer world knows about the quality in San Diego, and we wish San Diego Internacional FC the best of luck as it prepares to take the field later this year.”
Alex Macias Sr., owner and head coach of San Diego Internacional FC, is a native of Guadalajara, Mexico. Macias Sr., 48 years old, trains European imports in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego.
“We were playing in the best league in San Diego County and we want a new challenge, and we feel like we can do more to elevate our players,” said Macias Sr. “We have such a great group that we want to go for it, and we’ve heard from others coaches and colleagues, ‘Hey, you’ve got great players,’ so we just want to go for it and play in the UPSL. This group has been together since 2012, same group, and we’re the perfect age group.”
Berlin Vindel, the team trainer for San Diego Internacional Futbol Club, is a native of Honduras. Vindel is a San Diego-based general contractor.
Alex Macias, Jr., a former local high school and junior college student-athlete, will play for San Diego Internacional FC.
“We’ve dominated the San Diego region and now we’re looking for a greater challenge,” said Macias, Jr. “We’re moving to the UPSL because of the excellent structure, the administration, and it’s the most like soccer should be sanctioned as it is across the world.”
